The redevelopment of the West Gippsland Arts Centre has reached completion! The sounds of orchestral music and patter of dancing feet can once again return to this much loved 1980s theatre.
The redevelopment included expanded foyer areas, complete internal refurbishment, functional and infrastructure improvements and a substantial new civic forecourt, in addition to expanding occupancy to 750 seats by adding a new balcony.
Demolition of a disused building enabled the foyer facade to be made transparent to the new forecourt, improving address and entry opportunities. Cascading steps and terraces use the landfall to create a natural, accessible amphitheatre for public events. The new café and bar embrace the edge of the forecourt, providing much needed social space to animate the centre during the day.
“The new public forecourt is amazing, it has become Warragul’s mini Fed Square.” – Rob Robson, West Gippsland Arts Centre Manager, Baw Baw Shire Council
