Tamworth Regional Council
Tamworth NSW, in Kamilaroi country
2021 study completion
$128m facility cost estimate

The project scope comprises community consultation and Needs Analysis to identify demand for the type and scale of performing arts activities and facilities in the Tamworth region.

The objectives have led to facility recommendations, spatial analysis, three concept design options for the identified site, and a detailed concept design, capital cost estimates and business operating budget for a new $130m complex.

Council is seeking funding.

Located on a steep site addressing the main retail Peel Street, beside the existing Regional Art Gallery and Tamworth City Library, the new centre will include a 600 seat proscenium theatre, 200 seat Studio theatre, 120 seat Salon recital room, 200 person functions centre, two rehearsal rooms and a recording studio. The building will also house the ABC North West studios, Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music, and provide an activated forecourt, café and rear events plaza with outdoor cinema.

The concept design presents the facilities as a variety of sculptural elements to the street, displaying activities within foyers and venues to entice people to make it their ‘community living room’.
