Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre

Wollondilly Shire Council
Picton, NSW in Dharawal and Gundungurra country
Opened 2024
$22m contract value

Recently completed, the new theatre anchors the corner of the new Wollondilly Cultural, Community and Civic Precinct. A large double height glazed facade presents to the street, offering views into the foyer. The window on Colden Street provides glimpses into the theatre space itself.

The new multi-function studio theatre allows configurations of theatre and concerts between 200-500 seats, conferences, and sit-down dining. Professional backstage facilities for performers will cater for touring shows.

With a large retractable seating back, the main theatre space can easily transform into a function space, supported by a large commercial kitchen and bar.

In the future the WPAC will connect to the adjacent Library and Learning Hub.

The flat-floor performance space, designed to provide flexible formats from theatre to dining, includes:

  • 350 person retractable seating bank

  • Removable seating pit to create a ‘raised stage’ experience

  • 10 x 10m stage area with wings and cross-over

  • Technical catwalks / tension wire grid over

  • Sprung floor suitable for dancing

  • Control room

  • Operable walls for room division

  • Sound locks to all entry points

  • Large, acoustic sliding door to connect the space to the foyer and future library.
